Empowering Partners to Capture the Cloud Market Opportunity

Cloud computing trends continue to show year-over-year growth, making Cloud Services one of the fastest growing segments in the IT industry. According to Report Linker, the global cloud computing market is set to exceed $330 billion in 2020 and expected to reach $623.3 billion by 2023. Approximately one third of companies' IT budgets are going to cloud services. Cloud computing statistics show public cloud spend is growing three times faster than private cloud usage driven by SMB demand for access to data everywhere.

Important Reminders

  • Expanding opportunities for partners in the Cloud Solution Provider program
As of January 1st 2022, customers will no longer be able to purchase new Microsoft Open License offerings or renew existing Open License program licensing. These changes to the Microsoft Open License program, will enable partners enrolled in the Cloud Solution Provider program to sell commercial perpetual software licenses for on-premises deployment through CSP. This will give customers the licensing flexibility they need as part of their digital transformation.

Key dates to Microsoft Open License program changes:

    1. As of January 19, 2021, Partners will need to use the Microsoft 365 Admin Center exclusively as the Partner Center software and license key fulfillment capability will be retired.
    2. Up until December 31, 2021, Partners can continue to work with customers to renew and purchase new software licenses, Software Assurance, and online services through the Open License program.
    3. As of January 1, 2022, no renewals of Software Assurance and online services or new purchases of software licenses can be made through the Open License program, and new license-only purchases will be transacted through the CSP program.
For details about the commercial licensing options and changes, read the announcement on the Microsoft Licensing news post and review the information on the Microsoft partner website.
